MESSAGE

Nanomaterials are being explored for variety of industrial technologies, including pharmaceutical industries, textiles, automobiles, FMCG category products, refineries as well as communication devices and entertainment electronics. The literal expansion of the periodic table in Chemistry, which is facilitated by novel synthesis of nanomaterials and incorporation of them in the polymers and other material matrices have  created tremendous excitement in scientific fraternity. The new ranges of properties are harnessed, not only to improve the existing technologies, but also to create new avenues. Radar technologies, optical communications, photonics and quantum optics /electronics, are just to name a few.

We work in this exciting area of research; in which we mainly concentrate at the interface of material science and sensors. Optical approach (Interferometric techniques), potentiometric approach and frequency shifting have been the main routes to obtain these ranges of sensors. Biomedical applications, typically for drug delivery have been one additional area in which our group has shown great progress. Chemotherapeutic drugs, insulin delivery and analgesic delivery are few applications. Our group has shown publications and patents in all these areas of research and we have developed product “ANANYA” to combat Covid virulent along with wide range of microbes for large-area sanitation. We have also developed large wound healing medicinal patches for drug delivery for more than 72 hours to a patient in remote location. There has been good industrial hand holding and we have given our technologies to DEBEL (DRDO), Kinetic Green and Venus Safety and Health Pvt. Ltd. Our research is strongly supported by various funding agencies such as Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Ministry of Defence (MoD), Government of India. The message which we wish to drive is that “Curiosity is the key to Innovation”. It is very important to be inquisitive, because that is exactly the way towards scientific and technological progress.
Furthermore, none of the research will serve the purpose if it does not reach the Society. Therefore a strong industrial interface is the must. Younger generation should never ever forget that their aim is to serve the society via developing novel technologies, through their research.
